So about a week ago I showed you guys the preview to the video for Katy Perry's new single "Firework". After now viewing the whole video I must say I'm pretty impressed. There's a whole lot there, family issues, sexual preference, and overcoming everyday battles in your life. Now I'm not trying to say that this is necessarily innovative, Pink has done it with "Family Portrait", Kelly Clarkson "Because of You"; However, these topics are timeless and will always need to be brought to the forefront. So kudos to Ms. Katy Perry, you've come a long way from "I Kissed a Girl". What do you guys think of the video as well as the song and its message?
After taking the week off Glee came back this week with their Rocky Horror Picture Show episode. Now, I'm not too familiar with the envelope pushing musical from the 70's but the show gave us a pretty good background of it and after a little research of my own I felt that the Glee kids did a pretty good job of recreating this over the top spectacle especially with the costumes. This most likely wasn't much of a stretch sine Glee itself continually pushes the envelope with it's own material. The ep as a whole was alright and I tend to disagree with Rolling Stone writer, Erica Futterman, it definitely was not the best ep of the season so far. Personally, I think the season opener "Auditions" or "Grilled Cheesus" were the best yet. While as whole the Rocky Horror picture show Glee style, storyline was sort of flat (mainly revolving around Will trying to get Emma back by putting the production on since she is a fan), the musical numbers were really well done and I thoroughly enjoyed them. The beginning of the episode with the singing lips was jarring but pretty cool as well, so kudos to Adam Shankman (Hairspray) for his interesting stylistic decisions in directing this episode. In the end, I'm happy to walk away from the episode with a new favorite song, Damn it, Janet. What did you guys think of the Glee Rocky Horror Picture Show? Did it get you guys in the mood to dress in drag for Halloween or maybe even all year round?
While performing at his concert for Shriners Hospitals for ChildrenJustin Timberlake performed a medley of "Cry Me A River", "Ain't No Sunshine" and Drake's "Over". In the cover of "Over" Timberlake decided to gives us an assured, borderline condescending re-write of lyrics letting us know he'll be returning to the music scene, at some point. Here's what he had to say,
“Don’t be pissed off I’m an actor - it’s not over,” Justin sang. “And when I come back, I’m gonna come harder / I’m doing me.”
This trailer left me speechless and will most take your breath away as well! From Director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) comes 127 Hours. The film stars James Franco as hiker/ adventurer Aron Ralston who gets trapped by a bolder at Robbers Roost, Utah. The rest of the story is just extraordinary. After five days Ralston decides to amputate his own arm, scale the 65 foot rock wall then hiked over 8 miles before he was rescued! While the film is vaguely reminiscent of Into the Wild the premise seems much more uplifting and Franco is incredible! Check out the movie poster and trailer here!
It seems like FOREVER since we've heard any big news about Ryan Gosling. The last thing I vividly remember about the guy was his huge beard and his epic love affair with Rachel McAdams and who can forget the huge make out session and the MTV movie award when they won for best kiss. Now we're on Ryan Gosling overload ( I see NO problems with this)! Right now everyone seems to want a piece of the this stud. Gosling will be appearing in All Good Things alongside Kirsten Dunst which looks AWESOME and right now he is working with break out star Carey Mulligan in the upcoming movie Drive. Check out the All Good Things trailer and set pics from Drive here!
I'm SUPER excited for this spunky red head to hit the SNL stage this weekend. This is something that Stone has outright said she has dreamed of doing. She's super cute, SUPER funny and I think she'll rock her performance! Permanent spot on the show maybe??!! Alas, we can only hope.
Wow. That's all I can say after seeing the cover to the upcoming issue of GQ feat. Glee cast members, Dianna Agron, Corey Monteith and Lea Michele. I don't quite remember Glee club looking this fun or this sexy when I was in HIgh School! While Agron was def. a little uncomfortable in the skimpy outfits Lea didn't seem to have any problems. About the cast Lea says,
"If anything's going on in our lives, we have each other. One time, I was having a bad day, and I called Chris Colfer. He came over with a pint of ice cream and 'Madea Goes to Jail,' and it was, like, the best night of my life."
Be sure to pick up the new issue of GQ. It will most def. having you guys out there perfecting your singing voices, that's for sure! Check out Agron's and Michele's GQ photos here.
Transformers 3, oh where to begin? First, the second one was a pretty epic disaster. Second, NO MEGAN FOX in this one! Third, what else can Michael Bay blow up? Oh wait, there's shit in outer space to be blown up! Well, at least that's what seems likely in the third installment of the Transformers series, Transformers: Dark of The Moon. While marketing another Transformers 3 related product Amazon ended up alluding to (basically spelling out for us) the plot synopsis. And needless to say, it's... interesting, to say the least. Check out the synopsis here! Don't worry NO SPOILERS!
“The Autobots Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide and Sideswipe led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime “Transformers” character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.”
With the upcoming release of her new single "Firework", Ms. Perry has decided to give us a preview of the upcoming video! And I must say, it looks AWESOME! Right now, I'm not too big on the song but I have a feeling it will grow on me. One thing I will say though, is that her voice definitely shines and Perry really shows off her vocal abilities as she belts out the chorus. Also, the message behind the song of letting your true colors shine and finding self worth is wonderful. Check out the video preview and full song here!
The single "What's My Name" should be hitting the airwaves along with the Billboard top 100 charts any time now! Now while people are alluding to the fact that there is more to this duo pairing up than what what meets the eye because these two dated for a brief stint after Rihanna and Chris Brown broke up; I beg to differ. People just like to talk, especially people like Chris Brown who had this to say about the single,
" 'What's my name' is a dope record!!! (I see you deAn)," Brown wrote, referring to the song's co-writer and Brown associate Ester Dean."
Written by Jennifer Westfeldt (wife of Jon Hamm), Friends With Kids is one of those ensemble cast movies. Lucky for us this ensemble cast sounds FANTASTIC! It is set to be about three couples and Hamm as well as Adam Scott are set to be the other halves of these couples along with Hamm's wife and Kristen Whig. So where does Megan Fox fit into all of this? Well, after seeing the toll that having kids is taking on their friends lives and relationships the couple of Wesfeldt and Scott decide to see other people after they have a kid as an attempt to bypass the stress. Fox will be Scott's "other woman" who he begins to date. I'm super interested to see how this pans out and think that Scott and Fox will have great chemistry. Hopefully this turns out as good and as interesting as it sounds! What do you guys think??
So the details of the films' plot is still pretty hush hush, which is greatly appreciated sine it is a Horror film full of suspense. However, the little tid bit of new I found recently does paint a nice picture of what we'll without giving anything big away. It is reported that Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has returned to her alma mater Woosdboro High as a guidance counselor as an attempt to reintegrate with society after years of isolation due to her past. However when a student is found murdered everything comes back full force and the ghost face killer leaves her head spinning! Another bit of new Scream 4 news is that it is intended to be a reboot with the ensemble cast introduce in this film carrying over into 3 more films. Hmm....do't know how I feel about that one. What do you guys think about the Scream reboot idea?? Check out the teaser trailer that just leaked here!
And yes, that's his real name, not a stage name! Hailing from Nashville and being the son of a Country music star from a young age he was encouraged to follow his love and passion for music; And lucky for us he did. His adorably geeky demeanor, great voice, and guitar playing ability make him the perfect addition to our quirky Glee club and a perfect rival for Finn not only in the choir room but on the football field as well! This is what Overstreet had to say about his role on Glee:
"You kind of have to stay in good shape. I actually signed that in my contract. It was all about having to have one or two shirts off scenes for every episode. I'm like the Taylor Lautner of TV now."
What's most interesting about Sam (Chord's character) is wondering how his sexuality will pout on the show. Originally, it seemed that he would be a mate for our Kurt but recently we see a romance starting with him and Quinn? What?! Somehow though I don't feel that this relationship is the end of our Sam's journey for love on the show. I for one am excited about Chord joining the cast and looking forward to seeing what happens with his character Sam. Offscreren the 21 year old has been linked to a recently single Rumor Willis. Also, Chord will be starring in the upcoming flick Warrior (2011) alongside the Twilight duo of Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene. Check out Chord performing alongside Dianna Agron in just about the cutest performance of Lucky" (try not to swoon too hard! SO cute!).
With the release of his new film Unstoppable right around the corner (Nov. 12) here are some new pics that just surfaced that will be featured in the upcoming issue of Details magazine of Chris Pine. Pine is looking all sorts of rugged in the new pics for Details. News about Pine has been pretty quiet since he blew up as Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams reinvention of Star Trek. Let me assure you though, that won't be the last we'll be hearing of Pine. He's got tons of stuff in the works and the sequel to Star Trek should be out in 2012! But for now here is a preview of what's to come in the upcoming issue of Details.
With the first part of the epic conclusion of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows right around the corner we have our first look at the new movie posters! And I must say, they look pretty sweet! The HP crew is all grown up and looking badass in the new eerie looking posters. Although I've never read the books I have seen all of the movie and must say that they continually get better with each one! Seeing these posters really got me excited and I will be waiting in anticipation for Nov. 19 when the first part is released! Check out the new posters here! What do you guys think? Are you pumped for the new HP movie?? And in case you haven't seen it or forgot, check out the trailer also!
So if you're as big of a GLEE fan as I am you were probably somewhat surprised that Puck(Mark Salling) was strangely absent from the show this week (10/12). Mr. Shuster gives us an abrupt and awkward reason as to why Puck is gone. He tells us that Puck is in Juvenile Hall for causing some mischief. The scene is clearly forced and feels super uncomfortable, and now we know why. The badass, guitar playing crooner from Glee may permanently be off of the hit show! The head hanchos at Glee felt it disrespectful for Salling to take a greater interest in his jazz fusion band Jericho rather than the show. They may consider it a breach of contract. I feel as though this is a poor decisions by both parties. His character will certainly be missed from the show and feel a little empty and it just doesn't seem like a smart career choice on Mark's behalf to strain a relationship that has made you part of one of the most popular shows on television and a Pop-Culture phenomenon! There are however other reports saying that this isn't the case stating, "It's all incorrect. Of course Mark is still on the show, he just wasn't in that episode." Is this true or is something shady going on? What do you guys think? How do you guys feel about Sallings character Puck possibly not being part of our beloved Glee club anymore? Sound off with your comments!
It's a damn shame when a sequel is made solely based on the high grossing income of original film. It's clear to see why big box office hits have sequels instantly greenlit and while this often happens, rarely is it a good thing. Once again, this seems to be the case for The Hangover. The plot set to take place in Thailand, the plot will consist of the four amigos played by Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha attempting to piece together the events of the night before to figure out how Stu (Ed Helms character) ends up sleeping with a Thai transvestite. So is it me or does this sound just awful? We'll see what happens but sadly films like the first Hangover are pure gold and hard to come by! Much like the first Transformers film, there was magic there that just couldn't be duplicated in the sequel. It is yet to be seen if this is the case with the Hangover sequel. The film will have director Todd Phillips back on board and is set to be released May of 2011. Take a first look at The Hangover 2 cast reuniting here!
I fell in love with the strange, eighties sounding, rooster haired looking group a while back with their powerful, spunky sounding pop and unique vocals. La Roux recently released their single In for the Kill along with a new video. Now it goes without saying that the video is outrageous and the song is catchy as hell but then I came across a remixed Dubstep version of the song and really dug it! A lot of you that watch Entourage may recognize fit from the most recent season's soundtrack. Dubstep, is mainly a UK music style. It's a trend that started back in the eighties that consists of a strong bass line and a very slowed down instrumentals with few vocals. Initially, this may not seem very appealing and I would have to agree. I feel as though his would not work on just any song but Elly, the face and voice of the group has haunting vocals that really stand out and are a perfect match for this down tempoed beat. Check out the new song and the dubstep version here and see which one you wanna rock out to.
Catfish (B): This amazingly simple indie film done by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost offers a great and meaningful message. The film which stars Yaniv (Nev) Schulamn Ariels' brother, and his quest to meet Megan, a young woman who he has been having a relationship with for several month now over Facebook. Yaniv first comes into contact with Megan after her younger half sister Abbey begins sending Nev photos that she has painted of his photography and they become pen pals. Megan and Nev has this incredible connection and Nev feels that if all the elements fall into place that it would turn into an instant relationship. However, one night while Meg and Nev are talking she begins sending him music she's recorded for him. It turns out that these are other people's songs and she is deceiving Yaniv into thinking she is something that she is not. Nev hurt and angered by this news has a newly fueled desire to meet Meg and see wat else she's lying about. While on a trip to shoot a dance event in Colorado Nev and his brother Ariel and Henry decide that it is time for Nev to meet Megan and get it on film. When Nev and the rest of the crew dig beneath the surface they discover much more than they ever could have imagined. What's so fascinating about this film is that while the inherent message that people aren't who they say they are doesn't just apply to Facebook but in person as well. There is always more to someone than what meets the eye; Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. Another great thing about this is a lot of us by now take for granted that over e-mails or Facebook that we're talking to the exact person we see. The film is definitely worth seeing and surprisingly entertaining for only having Nev as the main focus for the majority of the film.
The Social Network (A-): This fast paced, snippy dialogued film by David Fincher will have your head spinning from the opening dialogue between Rooney Mara and Jesse Eisenberg until the end credits. The film really is riveting! I was left wanting more by the end. Which of course is a good but a little unsatisfying at the same time. The script by Aaron Sorkin is wonderfully written and executed So well by Eisenberg as snarky Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The only problem I had with the dialogue was that at time it came off almost forced as if the actors were purposefully trying to have each word drip with bite and disdain. Other than that I haven't had a movie experience like that in a long time! I was engaged from start to finish and overwhelmed with the kind of emotion that lies behind the founding a business. Along with a fantastic story the plot was driven by a hard hitting pulsing score laid out for us by Trent Rezner. Eisenberg along with our upcoming Spider Man Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake gave wonderful performances. Rooney Mara was impressive as well and may just have the chops to play the lead of Lisbeth in the Girl With the Dragon Tatoo afterall. Another great surprise was were the Winklevoss brothers (Armie Hammer, Josh Pence) who added a lot of comedic energy to the film. The Social Network is quite the theatrical ride and an experience you won't regret. All in all it is easy to see why it is already an early Oscar contender. One thing that is certain, after seeing both films I definitely have a whole new view on Facebook.
Actress Rosario Dawson (Clerks 2, Josie and the Pussycat dolls, Seven Pounds) recently stated in an interview,
"I'm on the East Coast a lot and I feel uber skinny and super young. I come to California and I feel fat and old. I'm 31, I'm starting to get old. I'm not emaciated. The amount of times I've been told to lose weight is unbelievable, I kid you not."
So why is this still an ongoing trend in Hollywood? It seems that as time has progressed and were moving away from the uber skinny chick playing the lead role and that curvier women were getting more rolls on screen and television. However, with Dawson's recent comment and also with a very skinny Lea Michele popping up recently, it seems that's no the case.
Another question that this brings up though, is it just the industry or could this be an East Coast West coast rivalry that we have on our hands? Is it more acceptable to have some weight on while on the East Coast and not on the West Coast? It seems that people on the West coast don't just "show a little skin" but rather "a little bone" too. There is also the fact that people on the West Coast are more athletic and active due to the abundance of sunshine they receive! What do you guys think about skinny being in...does it plague the industry??
I was fortunate enough to meet Rosario while celebrating at the Wrap party for her upcoming film Unstoppable with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, and I must say she definitely does NOT need to lose any weight. She is just as beautiful on the inside as on the outside and was a joy to meet. Rosario is continually involved in activism in the Latino community as well as the United Way and Immigration Reform and I commend her for speaking out these issues.
Harry Potter...Twilight...I Am Number Four? Are you guys ready for the next big tween craze to hit theaters? I know I am! So Aliens, that look like humans, are being hunted down by some mysterious force from their home planet and have come to Earth to escape. At least we have clean water here...or not. I must say I was definitely skeptical when I heard the plot. There didn't seem to be much there and with newcomer Alex Pettyfer to take the lead and carry the movie also worried me. However, after this recent teaser trailer I must say I was blown away! I'm intrigued and gotta say that this looks truly fascinating. Also, now more than ever, am I compelled to read the book before the film comes out in February. What do you guys think, will you see it? Check out the trailer here!
