Oh the Britmanity!

It's here!  The long awaited Britney/Brittany episode of Glee.  Now I was just as excited as everyone else when I saw the promo for the ep.  While it was great to see the "Princess of Pop" get paid tribute to, the episode a whole fell short.  The song choices of course were fun but the storyline was well...kind of stupid, until the end when we got to the heart of things with Mr. Shue's feelings for Emma and Rachel finally learning to trust Finn.  This isn't to say that "Britney Mania" was ALL bad.  I really enjoyed the "Toxic" performance and the guys' reactions to the new, sexy Rachel!  What did you guys think?  Was the ep. worth all the hype?  Or like me, did you feel that the show was capable of SO much more, especially with a genius like Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck) controlling the reigns?

In case you missed it check out the "Toxic" Performance here!

"Catfish" Got Your Tongue?

With The Social Network hitting theaters are over this weekend is it too soon for another movie about social networking to make a splash?  Not in the case of Catfish a documentary...or is it a mocumentary about Nev Schulman, a New York photographer who ends up becoming pen pals with 10 year old Abby after she sends him a painting that she did of one of his photographs.  Shortly after Nev begins to connect with other member of her family, specifically her older  half sister Meg.  They begin an online romance that Nev can no longer bare and decides that he MUST meet her face to face.  And that all I'm going to say.  While this plot may seem contrived what lies beneath the surface will leave you stunned!  Check out the trailer here!

Ryan Reynolds Buries Himself in His Work

In the current issue of GQ Reynolds upcoming movie in which he is buried alive is talked about.  The movie promptly entitled, Buried involves Reynolds convoy being attacked and then having him buried alive for ransom. The concept is quite interesting, much like phone booth only one character commands the screen.  Also, the camera is within the coffin with Reynolds the ENTIRE hour and thirty minutes the film takes place!  Now Ryan certainly is likable but do you guys think he is to the challenge of being on screen alone, for that amount of time?  Check out the teaser trailer, movie poster and a clip from the film to help make up your mind!

Maroon 5: New Album, Same Maroon 5

With the release of their third studio album, Hands All Over one would expect more growth from the group.  While there are a few tracks that caught my eye the album overall tends to be lacking.  Surprisingly, I enjoyed more tracks from the previous album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long.  Now, that's not to say there isn't any maturity in the groups sound.  The next single, "Give a Little More" has a great new sound and the title track "Hands All Over" has a really funky and soulful sound and there's an interesting acoustic version of "Misery" that is up for debate, but I think I like it. Check out the music and some photos from their recent video here!

Sheryl Cole Song Preview

So finally got around to checking out this Cheryl Cole chick that so many people have been talking about!  A preview for her song Just Live leaked today which is a convenient marketing ploy no doubt for her forthcoming album.  Now it must be said that while this preview sounds great, everything else she's released has fallen a little short.  A lot of talk about Cole stems from her truly stunning looks.  Let it be known that there is certainly no shortage of artist out there who aren't that good but make it solely based on looks, so the question begs, it Cole one of them?  Decide for yourselves after checking out the Just Live preview here.

And You Thought YOUR College Roommate was Bad!

So at one point or another you might have thought that you college roommate was the most vile person to grace the hallowed halls of your dormitory but wait until you meet this girl!  In ScreenGems latest picture, The Roommate Leighton Meester plays Mink Kelly's roommate from hell.  Now while the plot may seem pretty contrived what is cool about it is that it has a 1990's horror flick vibe and almost feels reminiscent of I Know What You did Last Summer.  You can almost picture a young Jennifer Love Hewitt playing Kelly's role.  Which leads me to the next interesting thing about this movie; it puts Minka Kelly in a leading on screen role, which in my opinion should have been done a long time ago.  For those of you who don't know Minka she play Lyla Garrity on NBC's hit show Friday Night Lights.  On the show you watch her character transform from this prissy Daddy's girl to an independent, very likable young woman.  It seems that with this kind of versatility that Kelly will command the big screen.  And for all you Gossip Girl fans out there I'm sure your guaranteed a very bitchy bordering scary Leighton Meester performance!  Check out the trailer her!

The Not so Mellow Side of Jack Johnson!

For those of you ready to see a whole other side to the soft spoken surfer dude, brace yourselves.  In this recent video Jack Jonson kicks some serious ass.  The surfer turned rocker packs a punch!  Leave it to Andy Samberg to bring out the asshole in someone!  Despite the typical Jack Johnson kind of song style, this certainly isn't a typical Jack Johson video.  It's not about nature and peacefulness, it's raw and it's about throwing down in a gritty, dirty bar!  It's great to see a funnier, not so mellow side of Jack Johnson. He's got a bit of fight in him, it's like the return of freakin' Rocky Balboa!  Check out the video here!

Julia Stiles is Still Acting?

So did anyone else out there think that Julia Stiles had sort of giving up that whole acting thing?  She would pop up now and again in films but nothing really jumped out at us or was ever as big as her performance in Save the Last Dance.  Well, it seems that's not the case.  Ms. Stiles will be appearing in the upcoming season of Showtime's hit series Dexter.  Recently, Stiles sat down to talk about her abhorrence toward gore and love for the show as well as her experience on the show and with Michael C. Hall. Check out the video here!

Being a Tourist Can be Hazardous to Your Health

So we've got Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp together in the upcoming film The Tourist.  Now, that's a pretty sweet combination!  So, okay neither one of them seem to seriously act anymore.  But while they may not do serious, what they do do, is fun!  Now, I'm all for great cinema but you've gotta appreciate those Blockbusters that just look like a good time. And that's exactly what this movie going experience looks to be.  Think, Mr. and Mrs. Smith meets the Fugitive.  If that idea doesn't excite you, check out the trailer here!

Megan Fox No Longer a Transformer Girl but an Armani Girl

Upgrade or downgrade folks?  Sure it's Armani and the commercial is defintely well produced and look cool.  But on the other hand, she went from being on the big screen to sppearing in a 5 minute Armani ad.  (Even Zac Efron isn't doing commercials anymore.  Come on!)  Alright, so it's not the end of the world but it certainly shows the shift in Fox's career over the past year.  She is awesome and fun to watch and it would be really cool to see her hit the big screen again.  But for now, check her out in this nifty little Armani commercial.

The Romantics: Another rom-com or worth seeing?

Anna Paquin back on the big screen, with Katie Holmes and Elijah Wood?  Seems like a strange combination but one that seems to come together nicely in The Romantics  a filmed based on the book by Galt Niederhoffer who also adapted the screenplay and will be directed the film.  Despite that fact that this scenario (someone is getting married but in love with someone else)  is your typical rom-com kind of movie it has a different feel to it.  It looks of Nicholas Sparks but feels more real and grounded than the fairytale worlds that Sparks tends to paint. Seeing Duhamel in a role where he doesn't have to play a complete tool is nice as well, especially since some acting chops lie beneath that pretty boy facade.  Another thing that sets this film apart is the involvement of the creator.  Whenever the creator is the one behind the project there is never any discrepancy in what they have in there novel and what they want to be portrayed on screen.  Originally Liv Tyler was set to play Laura rather than Katie Holmes but was later replaced.  In addition to acting in the film Holmes is a producer on the project.  Besides these big names the cast is rounded out by up and comer Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray) from Glee.  Check out photos and the trailer here!

Katy Perry Does sexy... tastefully?

I certainly think so.  I wasn't quite sure what to expect as a follow up to "California Girls" but "Teenage Dream"certainly solidifies why Katy Perry is so successful as a Pop Artist.  The single is not only catchy but is actually well crafted and has a theme that resonates with a lot of people (and no I don't mean that Katy Perry is hot).  As far as the video, I was pleasantly surprised at how well done the sexy types of scenes were done.  They weren't as in your face as her previous video and that's what made it so great.  This video was just...fun.  If you haven't seen it yet check it out!

Also I came across this while looking for the "Teenage Dream" song and thought it was really good.  Let me know what you think!

Zac is back!

So who isn't talking about Zac Efron right now?  His movie Charlie St. Cloud was just released and has gotten fairly good reviews, he's still dating Vanessa Hudgins and well...he's just so darn adorable!  HOwever I'm not here to gush about Zac. although I could probably do so all day.  I actually found his photo shoot and article for the upcoming issue of Details pretty interesting.  Now here's someone really trying to shake to Micky Mouse image.  I don't necessarily thinks it's one of those scenario's where Zac is trying too hard to do.  It's a gradual change that has been happening over the past year or so.  The pictures and the article seem to show a more rugged and any Efron as opposed to one that dances and sings and wears...mascara.  I think that while he may not have fully developed and honed his acting chops that this guy still a lot of talent!  He is a great entertainer who hopefully has some staying power.  Check out the photo shoot and see if you dig Zac's new style.

The Greatest Sketch SHow You've Probably Never Seen...Ladies and Gentlemen, 'The Jeannie Tate Show'

So my early morning bus rides to work are made tolerable, dare I say, enjoyable due to the WTF Podcast hosted by Marc Maron. This Stand-up comic has a great voice and great guest. Most recently I was listening Marc's interview with Parks and Recreations Aubrey Plaza. When asked what advice she would give to up and coming stand ups or actors who want to be in her shoes Plaza put it simply and calmly "Say yes to everything."  Then preceded to talk about how she dragged herself out of bed on a Saturday to work on a skit being put together by Bill Hader and his wife over in Hoboken, NJ and how because of this sacrifice she made connections and contacts for life.

Now while on paper, the skit about a Soccer Mom who conducts interviews with celebs in her van while she runs errands may not sound that funny the Jeannie Tate Show is wonderfully funny with a great cast of quirky characters, and the special guest in this ep.?? RASHIDA JONES!!!!  Hope you guys enjoy and be sure to click on the 'WTF Podcast' link at the top of the post and check that out as well, YOU WON'T BE SORRY!

**Special thanks to my friend Adam Novak for the heads up about this great podcast!

Are Biopics the new way to win an Oscar?...'My Week with Marilyn'

It seems that with King's Speech taking top honors at last years' Academy Awards that the trend this year is to bite off their style by doing a biopic in order to get some Oscar buzz this Season.  This became ever so present with all hype surrounding Clint Eastwood's J.Edgar staring Leo DiCaprio. Although I'm not sold on all the 'Hoover Hype' being thrown our way I was beyond surprised and impressed with how good the My Week with Marilyn trailer looks! The subtle approach that the film has taken not only to its marketing but also to its filmmaking I find really enjoyable. The film isn't over-the-top (despite having Kenneth Branagh in its cast) and Michelle Williams gives a phenomenal portrayal of the icon that is both tragic and beautiful. I'm SO excited for this!  What do you guys think??

Reality vs. Nostalgia...what shows from our younger years stand the test of time

So after recently watching Dawson's Creek for the first time since it originally aired I began wondering if the show was as great as I remembered (all that teen angst and "real" issues) they dealt with...does it still hold up or am I just nostalgic for a time in my life long gone?  A time when I wore Aeropostale and listened to 5ive.  And it got me thinking, what shows from our childhood and teen years really stand the test of time and here are some conclusions that I've come to.

Hey Arnold

Now that there are officially no good saturday morning cartoons I am always looking for something to watch over a bowl of Trix so I found Hey Arnold recently on Netflix and have not been disappointed!  The characters and there relationships are extraordinary.  Arnold and his adventures with his eccentric grandparents and his best bud Gerald as well as his ongoing love/hate relationship with Helga Patacki are so entertaining to watch that is makes you wonder what happened to simple concepts for cartoons and how did it turn into overdone 3D monsters.

Rocko's Modern Life

Unless you are drunk or under the influence of something there is no way you could enjoy this show!  Sorry Rocko, you may rock some sweet kicks but the concept of your show and your adventures are just too bizzarre.  I couldn't get past the first episode and I pretty much watch anything (ex.JohnTucker Must Die).  The show makes ABSOLUTELY no sense.

Pete and Pete

I adore this show!  The relationship between the Pete's is one that truly holds up over time.  They are so great together.  Their mishaps and the endeavors that they embark on, although strange, works.  The relationship that they have with there family is also very relatable.  And who can forget Arty?!  By far one of the best characters on tv in a long time.

As for Dawson's Creek, the verdict is still out.  Although I will say, even though I loved Dawson the first go around of the show,  that Pacey Whitter sure is charming.

Oh Captain, My Captain

Not too long ago, millions of viewers along with myself were enamored with newcomer Chris Pine's revamping of Captain Kirk in Star Trek. He made space (and that spandex suit) actually seem pretty badass! Now Pine is rumored to play another Captain, Captain America an upcoming version of Captain America. A few months ago I actually has the pleasure of meeting Chris while he was working here in Pittsburgh. We didn't talk much, but for the short time we did he was super nice and in my opinion his perfect "all American" look would make Pine a perfect fit for the role. Although there are several canidates for this role such as Chad Michael Murray and Jensen Akles, Cinemaspy have metioned that they believe Pine could be up for the role. So I am wondering if comic book lovers, movie goers, and the female community that gushes over Pine along with casting all agree that he will make a great Captain America?

N.Y. Fashion Week: All About the People

TOMMY HILLFIGER

BEBE-Kardashian

WILLIAM-RAST

While I can be found in jeans and a t-shirt most days of the week, I realize that the rest of the world has higher fashion sense than my Hanes t-shirt and jeans with holes in them. Hence, why I thought I would unveil the happenings from the runway show in NY. One thing I've noticed is the the people seem to take precedence over the designers and the clothes. With appearances by the Kardashians, CW stars, Kelly Osbourne, Jessica Biel, Ryan Phillipe and Justin Timberlake promoting his William-Rast line it clear there are no lack of star power. And that in the end what is what fashion is all about. I stand by the motto that it's "the person that makes the clothes, not the clothes that make the person"; And that, is what fashion is really all about.

The Guest List:

Kelly Osbourne

CW stars along w/ Ryan Phillipe

The Kind of Love that they only Write About...

In the spirit of Valentine's Day; Some of my favorite TV couples!

Kevin and Winnie

This couple gives you moments that warm your heart as well as one's that rip it apart. You grow with their love and watch it turn into something truly wonderful!

Corey and Topanga

These two love each other for who they are; flaws and all. This is how real love should be.

Joey and Pacey

These guys made the list because so much raw love and passion exist between them; you can just feel it. They've been thrugh hell and back and made it!

Zach and Kelly

We cannot ask for a more perfect couple! Form their hair to their clothes to their cliche dates at The Max these two are one of the most ideal couples we can hope for.

Jim and Pam

Cute is the only word I can think of to describe these two! They say office romances never work but these two blow that theory right out of the water!

Bill and Sookie

Their unnatural relationship works so naturally! These two are constantly bailing one another out of bad situations like a good partner should.

Ronnie and Sammie

"Never fall in love at the Jersey Shore." Well, that's exactly what this Guido and Guidette did. You cannot help but love seeing these two stroll down the boardwalk!

MTV no longer means "Music Television". Well, kind of...

MTV has finally accepted the fact that they are no longer "Music Television" by unveiling its new logo, which omits the words 'music television'. Although this comes as no surprise, it is nonetheless sad. It is the end of an era; the first television station to play music videos and change pop culture is forever gone. I should have known MTV was going to do this when TRL, the pulse of the American teenager and the new American Bandstand, came to an end. MTV has said that this does not mean music will no longer air on the station; you can still catch music videos in the A.M,. and new artist will continue to debut on the network.

Since MTV no longer has a plethora of music for us to indulge, in I thought I would share some of what I've been listening to lately. Hope you guys enjoy!

Dive into The Deep End

So typically shows about lawyers or the law in general just tend to be, oh what's the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah, boring. The Deep End however, is far from boring. In fact, it's just pure fun! The scenes are cut nice and sharp which allow the story to move along at fantastically quick pace. In doing so, the show really holds your interest. The Deep End is a smooth mix of the law and the comical/tragic lives of the first year associates at one of California's top Law firms. I also cannot forget to mention Billy Zane's wonderful performance as the jerk of a boss you never want to encounter. Although this show is new to the small screen I certainly hope that is stays afloat and continues to provide a depiction of the law that is compelling yet fun.

A Whole Lotta Love

HBO shows have always been on the cutting edge and possess a high quality of production, hence why it is so easy to like and tune in every week. I have recently been watching Big Love. It took some time to really dive into this show, since it is on the slower side I had a tendency to brush it off as pretty mundane. However, much like the highly acclaimed Mad Men series on AMC, Big Love has gone from a very slow building drama to a more fast paced show in its third season, taking a page right of Mad Men's book. And can you blame them? Mad Men is an undeniably brilliant show. Big Love has changed its opening credits and leaves viewers on the edge of their seats; wondering what trouble can these "gee golly", big haired Mormons will get into next? In doing, it has a whole new group of viewers falling in love with Big Love!
